Some art news
A sudden burst of art news, two news stories (via eswn) one by Francesco Bonami in NYT, and one in the Australian. Both articles, one more eloquently than the other, are saying there is a lot of hype about the Chinese art market at present, especially following the landmark sale of a modern Chinese art piece for over a million dollars at auction. Chinese arts magazine 艺术世界 (Arts World) has a similar article, funnily, In English entitled ‘Bullshit about Auction.’ Unfortunately Arts World website has evaporated, so no way to link to the piece. The site is www.yishushijie.com, it may be back up eventually.
In other news, there will be a rather large Japanese art show at Jing Art Gallery, 3758 Qixin Road, Minhang, the opening is 15:00- 17:00 on March 10. There looks to be about 40 artists involved, and there’ll be a show by the Butoh Dance Performance.

The Butoh Perfomance…
In yet other news the 696 Weihai Art Commune, which may now by the way be called ‘Zhong,’ ie. ‘中’ according to the French bloke who thought of it. This is to differentiate it from M50 - ie. 50 Morganshan rd. Anyhow, I digress, there should be an art show at 中, a collaboration in cahoots with Duolun Art Gallery. There is even a curator and everything, and the show will be a last ditch attempt to stop the place being bulldozed.
All will be revealed as it develops.
