That’s a court victory

Category: News, Random Shanghai stuff... --- May 24th, 2007

In the ongoing saga of Mark Kitto’s ousting from his own magazines by the government it seems he has finally got some good news to report-

” Now the State Council Information Office has begun talks on a settlement, but Mr Kitto believes that its offer undervalues the trademark for a magazine that prints more than 44,000 copies a month in Beijing alone. The Government is offering five million yuan (£333,000). Mr Kitto and his Chinese partner have demanded ten million yuan – a sum that he believes still falls short of the value of the brand.”

Spotted via ESWN, you can read the whole thing here.

Some art news (kind of)

Category: News, Random Shanghai stuff... --- May 21st, 2007

Not really news but this website www.yahqq.com has nominated its top 100 artists. One (living?) foreigner makes the grade it seems, who can be found here. The Yahqq top 100 is here, check it out for a history of modern Chinese art, a lot of the greats are there.

And did anyone notice Saatchi did a Chinese version of his website?

Don’t forget its the Eastlink Auction soon (ish?) and a lot more pictures have been uploaded to the site.

Another and- here is a new? book on Chinese modern art photographers, looks to be the first project of a new publishing company.

Here’s a review of the film, and here’s a short clip. Here’s the official site.

For those not even remotely interested here is a guy playing guitar. And here’s an article about hemp cultivation.
