HSK to be scrapped

Shanghai Eye has it from quite a reliable source the current exam for foreigners to gauge their Mandarin language ability, the HSK, is to be scrapped.
Apparently the current exam will continue for two years, whilst various personages sweat out a new exam. Apparently the main problem is the current HSK is too Chinese character oriented (ie. testees from other Asian countries, such as Japan and Korea, get an unfair advantage.)
Ah, the world of academia.
