Shanghai’s new Hongqiao airport

Jan 21st, 2010 | By Chris | Category: Random Shanghai stuff...

So, who knew? Shanghai has a brand spanking new Hongqiao airport, well, terminal 2, but apparently 90-odd-percent of flights will go through here. It opens mid-March! Wow, all for the World Expo obviously and the ‘70 million visitors.’

It will also apparently be the terminus for the as yet unready high-speed rail link, I think to Beijing. So this will be a big change for many Shanghai residents, used to the old, yet familiar Hongqiao airport, mostly for domestic flights. The area around the new airport is a web of unfinished overpasses and what not. And it seemed to take a long time to drive there.
